Durham University - Refurbishment of St Mary’s College
TGA were engaged as Building Services Engineers in a team led by PHP Architects.
The project included the refurbishment of student accommodation to create en-suite accommodation from existing bedrooms and bathroom facilities. The project also incorporated the refurbishment of the college kitchens as well as works to toilet facilities in the adjacent Williamson Building.
The buildings at St Mary’s College are high visible from Durham Cathedral which imposed restrictions on the visual impact of any external works. Additionally, the Mews building, which was included in the project, was Grade II listed.
The works were carried out, to a strictly constrained 13 week programme, over a summer vacation period. The programme was met with our ability to attend site at short notice, when formerly concealed voids and services were opened up, proving to be very valuable.
There was then a subsequent phase of works to replace central boiler plant. heating and hot water infrastructure
