Highgate Newtown Estate
A fifteen month consultation period involving many option appraisals and liaison with residents followed and this resulted in government approval for the replacement scheme.
The new installation involves retention of some major plant components with supplementary plant to increase resilience and efficiency. A zonal approach is being taken to the distribution installations which will each adopt variable volume control and use heat interface units with plate heat exchangers to decouple the secondary and tertiary installations.
Design features as above will reduce circulation energy and maximise heat transfer to improve the overall efficiency of the installation. Further carbon reduction measures will be incorporated including thermal storage and possibly small scale combined heat and power to generate heat and drive the distribution circuits.
