Fundraising within TGA

During the summer, TGA have been fundraising for the Children’s Heart Unit at the Freeman (CHUF) as a result of one of their Engineers’ little girl being born with a congenital heart defect known as an interrupted aortic arch with a large VSD type B. CHUF is a local charity based at the Freeman Hospital who support children and their families who receive treatment at the Children’s Heart Unit The Children’s Heart Unit is one of the world’s leading specialist centres for children and babies born with, or who develop, heart conditions. The unit is just one of two in the UK that has the facilities and skills to offer paediatric transplant and bridge to transplant operations. As a result, the Children’s Heart Unit treats critically ill babies and children from across the UK. Andrew Leask’s little girl Isla was born on Valentine’s Day 2017 and had open heart surgery in the Children’s Heart Unit at one-week old to save her life. Throughout the 6 weeks Isla spent in hospital, she went from PICU to HDU to nursery before being discharged. Isla literally experienced every aspect of the heart unit. Andrew and his wife Katrina began fundraising when they registered to attend the CHUF Toddle on the 2nd July 2017. After only 10 days of fundraising they had raised over £1,000 through the generosity of their friends, family and colleagues. The current total stands at over £1,200. Andrew and his wife plan to begin hosting their own events once Isla has had her next and hopefully final heart operation to continue to raise much needed funds for a charity... read more

Northumbria University Graduation 2017

Congratulations to our Mechanical Engineer Liam on his graduation with a Masters of Engineering on the 7th July 2017 from the Building Services course at Northumbria University. This is an excellent step forward in his development and although it has been very challenging, his commitment to studying and working shows that Liam has what it takes to develop into a great engineer! Liam follows a long line of graduates from Northumbria, dating back over three decades, and he will soon be followed by the next generation of TGA’s future engineers in 2018. This continues to demonstrate TGA’s ongoing commitment to ‘growing their own’ and investing heavily in the development of young... read more

York Minister Award Winning Lighting

York Minister and its new lighting strategy, by Sutton Vane Associates, was winner of the Heritage Project of the Year at the Lighting Design Awards. TGA are proudly listed as the Engineers involved with the project helping bring Sutton Vane’s strategy into an engineered solution.  TGA have worked with SVA on many projects including Newcastle’s St Nicholas Cathedral, Durham Cathedral and currently the redevelopment at Auckland Castle. Described as ‘one of the greatest cathedrals in the world’, York Minster required a full lighting strategy. The first part to be completed to the new plan by Sutton Vane Associates is the Nave, the Nave Aisles and the Quire Screen.  A major part of the lighting and servicing strategy was to conceal the luminaires, associated drivers, cabling and containment as much as possible to ensure that the visible services were kept to a minimum, whilst allowing the ‘lighting effect’ to take centre stage.  The lighting scheme and associated control had to be user friendly with maximum flexibility for the various events that take place. In addition to traditional ‘scene-setting’ push buttons, that were concealed from view, a wireless link via the Lutron App allowed for iPhone / iPad control.... read more
