Park View Academy
TGA Consulting Engineers LLP were employed by Morgan Cass Building Services Ltd to offer a design and build solution for the mechanical and electrical services during redevelopment of Park View Academy, part of the Building Schools for the Future programme.
The project involved part new construction and part refurbishment in multiple phases with full occupation during school term times. The main contractor was Balfour Beatty Construction Ltd.
The photograph shows the new “street” which was constructed between existing buildings to improve circulation and act as the hub of school life, with the dining room and main school hall immediately adjacent.
The project encompassed new science labs, general teaching spaces and specialist teaching areas with the emphasis throughout on IT accessibility.
The whole of the aging services infrastructure was replaced during the course of the works. This included re-engineering of all the heating systems to maximise the benefit of new condensing boilers.
A small scale Combined Heat and Power unit is to be incorporated in the final phase to provide electricity and heat for the extensively used Sports Hall. These facilities will offset 10% of estimated carbon emissions.
