TGA were commissioned by Durham University to carry out a major refurbishment of student accommodation within St Mary’s College.
TGA were engaged as Building Services Engineers by an architecturally-led team.
The project included the refurbishment of student accommodation to create en-suite accommodation from existing bedrooms and bathroom facilities. The project also incorporated the refurbishment of the college kitchens and servery as well as works to communal facilities in the adjacent Williamson Building.
The buildings at St Mary’s College are highly visible from Durham Cathedral, which imposes restrictions on the visual impact of any external works. Additionally, the Mews building, which was included in the project, was Grade II listed.
The works were carried out, to a strictly constrained 13-week programme, over a summer vacation period.
There was then a subsequent phase of works to replace central boiler plant. heating and hot water infrastructure.
