Building Performance Engineer

TGA are an expert provider of professional design and consultancy services in the fields of Building Services Engineering, Building Performance and Low Carbon Design. As part of planned growth, TGA are currently reinforcing their Building Performance team and looking to recruit strong candidates into Durham, Newcastle, Leeds and Stevenage. This position is based in our Newcastle Office. This is a fantastic opportunity to join an established and innovative Building Performance Team within an exciting market sector.

The engineer will form part of the Building Performance team and will be involved in a wide range of project sectors including commercial, industrial, retail, healthcare, heritage, education and leisure, within both public and private domains and via traditional and design and build routes.

Our Building Performance team is growing rapidly, and we are delighted to be seeking highly motivated individuals to join our team of building performance specialists.

The team is focussed on integrating health and wellbeing into efficient building services design, with a commitment to achieving net zero carbon.

Our specialist team works closely with key stakeholders and design teams to deliver a wide variety of projects, from the historic Salford Cathedral to the industrial manufacturing plant of Hitachi Rail Europe. Supporting the development of Net Zero targets for major public organisations to devising key energy resilience plans for major private organisations, all form part of the workload and currently being progressed in support of pathways to net zero carbon.

The roles available will be based in offices located in Durham, Newcastle, Leeds and Stevenage.

About You

You will be able to provide design and strategic advice to clients and design teams, and will be capable of:

Carrying out thermal modelling to determine thermal comfort, visual comfort, energy performance, climate resilience, impacts on climate, carbon assessments etc to guide and assist the design team in implementing the most appropriate design solutions
Supporting qualitative assessments to provide early-stage design advice to the design team and stakeholder
Developing parametric modelling studies to suit the level of detail required to guide design decisions
Assisting the wider TGA team in delivering projects
You will have a combination of the following desired skills:

IES VE dynamic thermal modelling software
OCDEA Assessor or NDEA Assessor
Passive House
Fitwell/Well
BREEAM/LEED
One Click LCA
Python or other coding skills
To be eligible for this opportunity, you will have a degree (or relevant experience) or are expected to achieve one of the following degree disciplines:

Degree in Building Performance related subjects such as Environmental Design, Sustainable Building Design, Building Services Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
You should be able to demonstrate your interest in the role and in working with TGA through relevant work-based experience, as well as experience gained from studying relevant modules as part of your degree.

What TGA offer

TGA operate a flexible working hours system (“flexitime”), with hours being able to be varied within the context of the 36.25 hour week and TGA core working hours.

When in agreement with your Line Manager, an Early Finish Friday is available to you with a finish time as early as 12:45pm, when the weekly 36.25 working hours are met.

TGA support hybrid working between the office and home, with an expectation that you would work 3 days within the office or on site/client workplace etc. This is required in order to support the development of communication skills and relationships, both internally and externally. Office based work is also required to support the mentoring of apprentices, trainees and graduates.
