Raby Rising
TGA provided integrated MEP, Building Performance and Specialist Lighting services for the Raby Rising project, supporting the conservation of historic buildings and creation of new visitor facilities within this Grade I Listed estate while protecting its heritage character and landscape setting.
Project Summary
The project involved the conservation and refurbishment of several historic buildings including the Riding School, Coach House and Dutch Barn, together with the construction of new visitor facilities including a Ticketing and Visitor Centre and the Vinery Café.
Extensive improvements were also undertaken across the wider estate, including the formal walled gardens, landscape areas, pathways and a new children’s adventure play area.
TGA designed the M&E services across the various buildings, including new electrical infrastructure to enable the removal of existing overhead services.
The project required careful coordination to introduce modern facilities while respecting the historic character and sensitive landscape setting of the estate.
TGA’s Specialist Lighting Designers developed internal, garden and landscape lighting proposals that enhanced visitor experience while remaining sensitive to the historic environment and surrounding ecology.
Lighting within the Gardens and connecting routes was carefully designed to minimise impact on the night-time environment, supporting dark skies principles and minimising unnecessary light spill within the wider landscape.
TGA’s Building Performance Team also led an estate-wide energy study using dynamic thermal modelling to develop a strategy for reducing carbon emissions and improving long-term sustainability. The integrated approach brought together heritage conservation, visitor experience and environmental performance.
Raby has been recognised through its nomination for an RHS award, reflecting the quality of the landscape and visitor improvements delivered across the estate.
