  • Sunderland Royal Hospital Investigation and Intervention Unit

TGA completed a HTM compliant refurbishment of the existing Endoscopy department to form a new Investigation and Intervention Unit, including a large open plan area, procedure rooms, single bedrooms and ancillary staff areas.

    Project Summary

The location of the department was challenging as there is no access to the plant area, therefore the new AHU had to be carefully designed to fit within an adjacent courtyard in an under croft with height limitations.

This also posed issues with routing ductwork into the building, careful coordination was required with the architect to form strategic bulkheads. The department is surrounded by live departments and live services run through the area of the works, this required careful coordination to minimise disruption to adjacent departments.

The mechanical works include medical gas systems, domestic services, drainage systems, new ventilation systems, a new DX cooling system, LTHW systems and new BMS system. The electrical works include low voltage distribution upgrade along with the integration of a new UPS & IPS system to provide resilience and isolated power supplies for the needs of the Group 2 medical locations. Enhanced earthing in line with BS7671 is provided to all Group 1 and 2 medical locations. A new Nurse Call and Staff Attack system are to be provided alongside a replacement Fire Alarm system and new small power and data to suite the needs of the department. New energy efficient LED lighting, in accordance with LG2, incorporating lighting controls is provided to the refurbished department.
