TGA have collaborated with New College Durham to assist in the provision of work placements for T Levels for over 2 years. T Levels are 2 year courses that follow GCSEs and are equivalent to 3 A Levels, offering a great alternative to A Levels and Apprenticeships.
T Levels provide support for the development of future engineers who have decided to take the educational route. With the success of apprenticeship training within TGA, we believe that T Levels are a great balance between a traditional college route whilst allowing students to gain real experience to expand their knowledge.
All students get the opportunity to gather experience in all our departments, from electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, building performance to our BIM department.
In TGA’s Durham office, we have T Levels students Jack and Darcy who are studying at New College Durham and attending TGA one day per week over a two year course. Having finished his 2 year placement, Jack now has a full portfolio showing a timeline of the design process; from calculations, to mark ups, to 3D models. Darcy is in her first year of placement following the same process.
Seeing the success in Durham – we are expanding T Level placements to our Leeds office, in collaboration with Garforth Academy to provide a 4-week placement.
Mason will work alongside our Electrical, Mechanical and Building Performance teams during a 4 week period, as well as gaining experience alongside our BIM team, learning about Revit and other 3D modelling software and their use in modern engineering practice. It is hoped this approach will provide Mason with a taste of the key disciplines and provide the real world experience required to help support the T Levels process. Mason will be TGA’s third T Levels student, but the first in Leeds.
As part of TGA’s core values, there is a desire to support and develop engineers of the future, which it is hoped the T Levels process will do.
