TGA are working as part of a team led by Purcell Architects to completely refurbish Hull Maritime Museum, the adjacent Dock Office Chambers archive store, Queens Gardens public park, the Arctic Corsair historic trawler and its’ new PassivHaus visitor centre.

    Project Summary

TGA have carried out the design of all M&E services in the NHLF funded refurbishment of the Grade II* Listed Hull Maritime Museum.  The project includes the introduction of a new glazed atrium in a former lightwell and the creation of significant additional exhibition space in former back of house areas of the basement and on the 2nd floor.

The Museum’s “landlocked” location and the intensive use of space for exhibition purposes presented challenges in terms of accommodating and distributing the necessary M&E services without causing damage to the historic building fabric or detracting from the aesthetic qualities of the building.  These were addressed through the use of a fully coordinated Revit model allowing services routes to be planned to suit the structure and the building fabric.

Careful design was also required to deliver appropriate environmental conditions for the varied artefacts which will be displayed in the Museum and to provide appropriate lighting and emergency lighting in challenging spaces such as the Court Room and the main stair.

TGA are also PassivHaus Designers for the new North East Shipyard visitor centre which overlooks the Arctic Corsair historic trawler and undertook all M&E services design for the representation of Queens Gardens public park.
