Oakwell House

The refurbished Oakwell House is a two-storey office in the centre of Barnsley. It was redeveloped as a headquarters for the South Yorkshire Pension Authority (SYPA) including all modern office conveniences in a post-covid 19 environments.

Project Summary

Oakwell House is situated just off the Pontefract Road near Barnsley town centre. The main challenge faced on this office development was how to install an exciting, visually attractive and welcoming modern office into the confines of a large open plan rectangular office. The existing office space was a drab open plan space with modular ceilings and little spatial differentiation.

Working with GT3 Architects, TGA were engaged to provide a feasibility study to discuss new ways of working in a post-Covid-19 environment. The vision, workplace strategy and spatial requirements were agreed with the client, SYPA and Oakwell House was identified and procured.

TGA’s Specialist Lighting team worked closely with the interior designers to provide a vibrant and exciting scheme that was not only visually attractive but also energy efficient.

The workspace includes clear defined areas to allow modern working practices including breakout spaces and informal areas as well as office and work space accommodation.

During the construction of the Learning and Teaching Centre (LTC) TGA were engaged to complete the Construction, design and installation information on behalf the M&E contractor. Their involvement from an early stage enabled the building model to be developed with actual manufacturers information, which provided detailed installation information.

The flexible approach delivered by TGA enabled builders work holes in structural elements to be detailed very early in the programme, which had cost and programme benefits.

A Level 2 BIM model was required for the project, with TGA being very proactive in developing this and guided the site team and other team members with the delivery of their respective elements.

TGA helped to provide a very technically demanding building successfully, which incorporated complex MEP, Architectural and Structural co-ordination.
