TGA worked alongside the Client and Design Team, including architects Cartwright Pickard, in the development of tender design information for the school and their plans for the Prep School Site. This included a new build block and modifications to existing blocks affected by the proposed works.

    Project Summary

The works were part of Yarm Schools £30million of investment over the last decade, with significant enhancements to the quality and effectiveness of their Prep School accommodation, including improved access and parking.

The project included approximately 2,500m² of new accommodation being provided on the current Prep School site, which enhanced the entrance to the school. A new welcoming reception area was provided in addition to a purpose-built flexible performance space, stunning open-plan learning resource centre and additional teaching accommodation.

There was also the refurbishment of existing accommodation, which created a music hub, new changing accommodation and improved administrative facilities.

The project works include the existing Prep School site and the adjacent existing car park.

A new two-storey Library and Teaching Block (Block C) were constructed on the site of the existing building. Modifications to existing services and systems were required to allow for the disconnection and reinstatement of M&E services to areas to remain as existing, including Blocks A and B.

The new Library and Teaching Block included a main reception, multi=-purpose hall, refectory and kitchen to the ground floor. The library and general teaching classrooms were provided to the first floor.

The new development utilised Air Source Heat Pump technology as the primary heat source, providing a shift away from fossil fuels for the school. This resulted in a change in strategy for the schools maintenance team, who were involved in the design process to ensure buy-in.

The use of ASHP technology resulted in significant electrical upgrade works to Grammar School Lane, a key access route for the school that had to be carefully planned.
