The development included converting the existing building into a new Premier Inn Hotel along with a series of restaurant and shop units at ground floor including Turtle Bay and Cabana. A gymnasium was also provided at basement level.

The new hotel provides 184 bedrooms within the 6 storey 170,000sqft building.

A new substation was provided as part of the scheme to serve the development, which included major local reinforcement and redistribution of the local High Voltage network.

The Listed nature of the building meant that a original features, including chandeliers and other ‘art deco’ style light fittings had to be retained.

The installation included a gas fired CHP unit and  a PV system on the roof of the new bedroom block.

The design and construction teams were challenged by Premier Inn to meet current Building Regulation standards with respect to carbon emissions.  This was achieved through careful design and selection of equipment alongside the supply chain.

The project was Winner of the Constructing Excellence Regeneration award 2017.
