TGA acted as lead consultant with a design team comprising architect, structural engineer, quantity surveyor, audio visual specialist and internal IT specialist. We established a very strong working relationship with Centre for Efficient and Renewable Energy in Buildings, (CEREB), Director and Professor of Energy Engineering at London South Bank University, (LSBU), to interpret and implement his vision of the centre.

TGA also had to liaise closely with the design team acting for LSBU on the construction of the base K2 building.

CEREB was conceived as a teaching, research and demonstration facility for showcasing low zero carbon technologies. The centre comprised a main seminar room with associated facilities, a “plug and play” plant room and technology terrace each of which featured examples of cutting edge low zero carbon technologies. The outreach of the project was achieved through the internet and made extensive use of the Building Management System (BMS), and a carbon footprint tracker was provided for the building with radio mesh metering to form the basis of experiments in carbon reduction and human behaviour.

CEREB was built on the roof of the newly constructed, eight storey K2 building, itself featuring ground source heating and cooling via thermal piles.
